The Semiotics of Image + Type
Photography
Type Design, Visual Narratives
The project centered around one object and were challenged to explore every meaning it could be associated with, I chose a gas mask. The shape of gas mask was the hardest to work with, the object is so bound to its utility use that I could not separate the human aspect from it. I overcame that challenge by using the mask as a response to environmental problems and dehumanization. Since most gas masks are modular, I decided that I could go more in-depth with my visuals.
What I learned from the experience is to look past intial interpretations and properly examine a subject from every angle to illustrate its place in the world.
